Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
just-a-sip has PMed me saying it is my turn. I am awaiting the bottle!
Really looking forward to it's contents.
I only hope that what I put in it next is good to the next in line. I have nothing aged or on oak because I tend to drink all I make. But my last batch to come off the still taste good to me.
I gotta cut this short for now. Just had two molars pulled and just sitting back and enjoying the pain!

Has any one heard from just-a-sip? He may be on a mission to do good things to bad people, but I have not heard from him since July the first. I hope all is good.

Naw, hadn't heard a word... I would think u would have heard something from him by now. Maybe he's working on that box fer tha bottle? Maybe he's taking a picture of himself to include in my photo album? Maybe he's sampling before sending??? It'll happen though, as you have already learned from our hobby, patience is a virtue!!!

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
ok guys let me start by extending my a huge apology, just as suspected i was once again sent off to do our nations business.
I guess when i took on the responsibility of accepting the bottle i should have given that a bit of consideration. unfortunately the hard facts are i am in a Special Military Unit and i tend to be here one day and gone without even so much as a heads up the next. (believe me my wife hates it more then you could ever know).
now i have sent the bottle on. it should be at its next destination by Monday (fingers crossed). I cant wait to get an opinion back on my products. unfortunately due to my most recent trip i did not get the chance to get the box made. i could have started today but then it would be another 2-3 weeks before it was sent, and who knows if my phone would ring to leave again.... so i decided a bottle without a box was better then no bottle at all.
again sorry for the delay but it is on its way again

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
I can't wait! On the good side of the delay, I had time to put some back from early July so it will be aged! Joking of course but that is aged for me.
just a sip had a delay but things like that can't be helped sometimes, I understand. Like Holy Bear said "patience is a virtue"
My contribution to the bottle will be my main product. I have dabbled in rum and brandy and macerates but my favorite is a faux wheat whiskey. I based it on Rads all bran, but I use those huge shredded biscuits for the wheat flavor and sugar for the alcohol. Really makes a fine drop for me.
I hope the next in line will like it as well as I do. I don't age on wood cause it just ain't the flavor I'm after, I know a lot of you are rolling your eyes but hey you like what you like!
I'll post the arrival of the bottle.

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
Well the bottle is here!
Do you recognize the picture album under the bottle Holy Bear?... Good to see ya! I guess I'll throw in a picture too.
If any of the previous bottle holders want their pictures in the album they can send me via e-mail a picture and I will do my best to print it and include it in the album. Just send me a pm.
I also received the two flask that Holy Bear (sorry I still want to call you Wacabi!) included in his package to just a sip. One empty, one full of a clear spirit.
I think I have a good guess as to what it is, but for now I'm keeping my mouth shut! I have sent just a sip a pm inquiring to the contents.
More to come, just chilling out after a day at the salt mine, and drinking someone else's efforts for a while!
That picture is minus the shot I took out for sampling! Do you recognize the picture album under the bottle Holy Bear?... Good to see ya! I guess I'll throw in a picture too.

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
glad you got it
i apologize for leaving one flask empty, but i didn't have anything worth sending for a third variant. the bottle is filled with what i call TN orchard; a smokey corn liquor infused with apple, orange, lemon, pear, and a dash of cinnamon is got very subtle fruit flavor and warm going down (110 proof)
the clear is what im calling black dawg or hound dog, it is again a corn liquor however this is special because the corn is smoked for 3 days prior to making the mash.. its the best spirit Ive made thus far and the recipe is as such..
18 lbs smoked corn
3 lbs flaked wheat
10 lbs 6 row barley
made up to 15 gal. if you ask me its amazing. only wish more then myself and rich got the chance to taste it.

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
Well I missed the call on what was in the flask! I do have to admit it was my favorite of the two.
Smoked corn? black dawg, Love it!. It was crystal clear and had a good flavor to it. I am really surprised the smoked flavor carried over into the distillate. It really does.
Now for the contents of the bottle." TN orchard; a smokey corn liquor infused with apple, orange, lemon, pear, and a dash of cinnamon is got very subtle fruit flavor and warm going down (110 proof)"
I have to agree on the description of the flavor but I seem to like his black dawg better! I will send a taste of it to the next person who get's the bottle. To who ever gets it it will be the half full flask! I got the other half!
As for the other flask. (thanks for including 2 Holy Bear, makes for better samples!) My lovely wife suggest a sample of my fire piss. Another thank you is in order as this is a Prairiepiss recipe that my wife loves. I have to admit this is not my best version of his recipe but it still makes good drinking stock here.
Well lightning just shut down my PC once tonight a few seconds ago and I was amazed my post was still here to send.....
Now all of this tasting was done straight of course, I tend to drink mixed drinks just cause that is what I do, but I want to pass on the flavor of what I am trying here!
More tomorrow....

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
I'm glad to see "The Bottle" on its way!!! Keep it going fellas. Sip has inspired me with that Smokey corn... hmmm, that sounds good, winters coming, and I love to roast popcorn in the fireplace and a sip. That sounds like a good combination, think might give it a try...
I am curious though, did sip include a pic in my album? I think the stainless flasks are a good addition since they are tough and secure.
Cheers to "The Bottle", and blessings to anyone who drinks from her!!!

Nope HolyBear, He didn't do a picture. I can understand. It's hard enough to give a stranger your address much less send photos partaking in an illegal activity.
But the way I see it I already have left a trail on the web, that if I were caught I would have to openly admit to. Since I don't sell and very selective about who knows, I think I will include a picture as well. It makes getting the package more interesting.
I'm still enjoying Just-A-Sip's contents from the bottle. That black dawg is some good stuff IMO. The smoked corn flavor is unusually good.
The bottle has its next destination lined up. It is going to be Midwest Shiner.
I know from reading his post the flavor of mine my not be up to what he likes, He is into using more grains and aging on wood. Mine will be a sugarhead but me and the wife really like it, I will be including a half flask (the flask is thanks to you HolyBear) of Just-A-Sip's black dawg.
The other flask will be a batch of fire piss. And "The Bottle" will be my faux wheat whiskey.
Bottoms up folks!

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
I am honored to be next up on the bottle, and Richard I can defintiely appreciate any well made likker and have made quite a few sugarheads myself before getting more heavily into AG. I'm gonna start practicing Jimbo's method of making a sugarhead from every batch of spent AG trub as a matter of fact. I'm sure my fiancee and I will enjoy whatever is sent along. Thanks again for thinking of me, I am already lining up the bottle's next recipient to ensure I have pressure to keep things moving along. And all this reminds me that I owe someone else a care package of goodies as well...

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
Finally got it ready to ship out! I would have got it ready last night but I found that one of the flask has a little leak in the seam at the top. So I found one the same size and style but it is leather bound with a Wild Turkey logo on it.
I plan on shipping it out tomorrow.
If midwest shinner don't care for the booze at least he can have fun with all the bubble wrap I used!
I did include a picture in Holy Bears album, I don't feel like that will bite me in the butt.
I have really enjoyed taking part of the bottle's travel (thanks just-a-sip) and really liked trying someone else's efforts for a change. Really liked the black dawg, or roasted corn likker. My wife likes it too. When ever I decide to graduate to an all grain I will defiantly try smoking the grain. Loved the flavor.
If your reading this you have just been tagged to do shot! (money scene). Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Awesome Richard7, i really can't wait. I will be waiting for the postman everyday, along with my dogs who always great him enthusiastically I haven't even tried your stuff yet, but you inspired me to try my hand at a faux wheat whiskey. Maybe i will have to send you a sample in return when its ready of course, so you can try the likker you inspired to be made... And frozenthunderbolt i am sorry to say i already have the next recipient lined up or i would very gladly send it on an international journey. Hopefully it can make it there in the semi near future. But there is someone I've chatted with for a while who i live cross country from who i would like to sample my wares and participate in this adventure. I will confirm this next recipient when i review Richard7s samples.Thank you again for choosing me to be next, i am very excited to be a part of the bottle's travels

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
So i returned home from work last nite to find a wonderful surprise, the bottle had arrived! I will give a detailed review of samples later, but pretrials on Richard7s faux wheat white dog and just-a-sips smoked corn whisky were enjoyed thoroughly. The only issue was one flask(of the smoked corn) was leaking a wee bit, but only lost maybe 2mLs or so. Luckily Richard7 was smart enough to put it in a ziplock, which caught the lost nectar. I will release now the bottle's next recipient will be Black Eye, so to the east the famed brandy bottle(among others) will travel next. I will likely wait a wee bit as i am trying to get a few whiskies run off in the next few days and would like to include some for Black Eye to enjoy and i may get a picture together to include in the photo album as well. That's it for now, will provide reviews later on.

I know this wish list is probably longer than the wait for seasons ticked for the RedSox, but I'd be honored if someone were to include me as a candidate for this game. I'm humbled by the reviews I read of other's work, and would be very honored to offer a sampling of my own to this journey.

Wow Shiner, that's mighty thoughtful of you. We been talkin a while, sharin ideas; I'd like to finally taste them.
Take your time with what you're makin. That'll give me more time to prep for the next in line. Hopefull I'll be doing a stripping run of this 10 gallon rum wash, tomorrow and then a spirit run of 4 or 5 gallons over Labor Day.
Can't wait to see what comes in the mail.
I've been reading this tread for quite some time with interest. Interesting idea and it's cool to see where that bottles been. I wonder if I sniff that cap hard I could get a faint whiff of Odin's Genever?

Ain't that the truth, If I was planning a trip down that way or to Oz I would offer to carry it empty to get it to another place. Its a shame it cant just go wherever without the worry of crossing some border. Hell, I was scared to send it within the borders but did not stop its travel cause it needs to get around!Kiwikeg wrote:It was heading for crow in oz but the postage killed that. Sorry y'all i did take some pics with the bottles but my laptop just crapped out so i have no way of resizing the pics to post from my phone. i can look into that later but I'm needing to get a new computer soon anyway. At any rate i will do a proper tasting of all the bottles and take notes to post. I have definitely enjoyed the bits I've tasted so far, thank you Richard7

Midwest Shinner,
I hate it when techy stuff crashes. I feel your pain!
Those SS Flask are notorious for developing leaks around the top. Even the one I included will fail eventually I'm sure. That is why I put each container in a zip lock bag. Even though I think it would take a pretty good whack to break a bottle with all that bubble wrap!
Critiquing my own, I would say I need to go up on the amount of wheat I use, but (Don't tie me to the whipping post) I like mixed drinks and I find the subtle hint of wheat appealing.
Glad you got it Okay.

Re: Message in a bottle: the story continues!
I've been trying to save the majority of the goodies shipped to me to share with someone else to get more than 1 persons opinion, but from my pretrials so far i can say that i really enjoy Richard7's faux wheat whiskey which once filled the famed bottle. It is very smooth, no burn to speak of, just a nice warmth radiating from my chest after a sip. A sweetness hits you first followed by a slight grainy almost tailsy flavor, but the tails are where much of the grain flavor resides. I have gotten in the habit of drinking all spirits neat(although i do enjoy a nice cocktail) and especially with how much i love grain flavors, i would agree and the only change id make were to add more grains for flavor, but everyone has their individual tastes and that's one of the best parts, imo, of making your own likker. Next up was Just-a-sip's smoked corn whiskey, which i absolutely enjoyed. It smells just like it tastes, which is huge smokey corn flavor, it really stays with you. I will likely borrow this idea at some point cause i dig it. The last of the beverages sent along was Richard7's firepiss, it was my first time trying the firepiss recipe and i liked it. The cinnamon flavor was strong, but nowhere near overpowering. In fact i sermed to pick up some other flavor that i couldn't quite put my finger on, along with the cinnamon. Maybe it was just some grain flavor from the base likker? Who knows at this point, but its very nice. My fiancee very much enjoyed it with some apple juice, it would make a great hot toddy type drink if served hot(with the apple juice) I should have a new computer soon and will upload some photos asap, i promise. For now that's it, but a huge thank you(yet again) to Richard7 for the goodies and the work it took to make em
