Securing a pot lid...the Safe way!

Post by Roobrew »

Having been reading the forum for a while now I was rather concerned at some of the ways to secure a pot lid. Yes using bulldog clips or mole grips might seem a good idea but is it fool proof? Can they be dislodged and lead to a serious accident and good bye to a few skin layers possibly??

Hence here is a safer way, easy cheap and secure....this puppies will not budge!...kick your pot up your yard and that lid will stay put. I don't know what these clips are called but I got them in a DIY store , though they are easy to make. Just bend the clip ( as square at first ) so the clip will bite onto the edge of your pot and tighten....but don't go crazy!

What's the intended use of those? What are they called? Where are they found? I'm guessing a hardware store. But this info will help people locate them.

Hi tropic

I don't know what they are called, I am trying to find out. I went to the hardware store and he had a few knocking around. Even if you cannot find them the are simple enough to make or make something similar, hence why I posted to share the idea, it really does work great!

They are intended as window locks.
I told the officer "I have my .45 on my hip, a 9mm in the console, and my shotgun under the seat" He said "Damn! What are you afraid of?" "Nothing" I replied...

Nice fix, unfortunately it won't work on my milk can boiler, so I went to turnbuckles. All It takes is two.

nice.... window locks....

look like ultra light weight G clamps

or modified lighting hook clamps

I was planning to use hooked toggle latches
bolted onto the tank with SS bolts

At the risk of hijacking the OP's thread, how did you attach those to the main part of the boiler?

They go through the wire handle openings.

So, it's part of the original container design. I was thinking it was something you had added yourself. Good stroke of luck for you that they were just where they need to be.

Yeah, that was luck, but the tricky part was finding the right sized bowl with double handles (7.5in) !!
