New Micro distillery

Post by corene1 »

I just wanted to share my first adventure into micro distilling, and wish everyone a Merry Christmas Going to do my cleaning runs and sacrificial runs this weekend. Shouldn't take much wash. I am expecting at least 1 oz. of good hearts on a spirit run. :D

Haha! That's awesome!

That could actually be handy for distilling essences, or small test runs for gins (where the flavours are soaked in vodka, not vapour infused).

Nice work

When you do a spirit run, collect in numbered capillary pipets. Let them air for 24-48 minutes.

Oh....Oh...can you run it on top of an Easy-Bake Oven?

So here's the instructions:

When output starts, carefully count the first 11-13 drops. These will be your fores to toss...

Cute rig, Corene!

I really need to make some kind of a mini burner for it. One of those tiny backpack burners and regulate it down very low. Maybe find some one that has one of those model railroad set ups and set up a still site on the layout. Yes I think cuts are going to be tough!

Make your own... black iron pipe, 1" diameter, with a cap on it. Drill holes until you are happy with the flame.

The really good news is that the fermenting times for a batch are down to around 5 minutes, .....2 minutes if you use turbo yeast!

Pocket Rocket will run that rig. You can tune them down pretty low.
Gotta know, do you do stripping runs first?

Indeed.
To clarify a Pocket Rocket is a stove made by MSR that is tailor made for that still. Just in case there was any confusion.

Beautiful job on the still . I would suggest an oil lamp burner for a heat source . You could use foreshots/early heads for fuel . My baby sister is into miniature crafts that is an avenue you might explore for additional adornments around your pot .
The wife of my buddy that does my tig welding so likes what I make that she brought me a figurine of a laid back hillbilly cradlin a ceramic jug . Slouch hat , big beard , leaned back in a rocker with his feet propped on the take off bench waitin for the pot still to get to work . A very uncanny resemblance  Wish I could post you a picture of it . Anyhow , those folks doing miniatures could put you on to all you would need to set that up as full working display in scale .
If you ain't the lead dog in the team , the scenery never changes . Ga Flatwoods made my avatar and I want to thank him for that .
Don't drink water , fish fornicate in it .

I did this for fun at work on Christmas eve as there really wasn't anything coming in . I was thinking of giving it as a gift to a friend of mine that has a distillery in Las Vegas. After a few thoughts and posts today it would be fun to make a complete working set up with back ground and the likes. Another project , just what I need!
