A Nova Scotia Canada Hobbiest

Post by vereid »

Hello fellow distillers....I am an older doll who was looking for an interesting hobby, I found it! I bought a 5 litre Alembic from Portugal. For my practice run sessions after tons of reading, I found magnum bottles of salted cooking wine and I am having success. My own fruit brew is awaiting in my fridge. I also make Beer from a kit which I tweak for more flavor with raisins and apples. What would I change so far, I would not have added the temperature gauge to the swan and I would have bought a much bigger pot still, but this works

Welcome to HD, I love the look of your still design but as you said it is a bit small and cuts are more difficult but still a cool piece of equipment. If you like most of us and stick around a while you will end up with another still. Problem with this hobby is we have so many creative members once you build a great still another member figures out a way to improve on the design. Good luck and enjoy the journey as it is as much fun as the destination!

Hey Vereid,

welcome to the forums. I think Maritimer is right that makes you the 4th of us but not 100%sure, I think there might be a 5th here too.

EDIT: too bad this hobby is so anti-social for gatherings. Be nice to talk to people in person sometimes :)

Well I finally made it back here, it should have been sooner! Thank you for the kind welcomes. I know I will want a bigger still, because I want bigger all ready. It would be great to age it and enjoy it for years to come. You are so right the journey is a whole lot more fun than the end...although my 25 year old loves my end product ;) ....just keeping it in the family.
The wine runs and my Kiwi wash turned out excellent. I ran them twice with copper scourers in the bonnet. They came out crystal clear with floral notes, I combined both for the second run.
I don't know why distilling makes people so uncomfortable, it is the best hobby. Again thank you for the welcomes, I am glad I found you and some more Maritimers :D
