Distilling cooking brandy

Post by Druss »

I was wondering is it possible to re-distill salted cooking brandy to get rid of the salt? Reason being it sells around here for 80$ for 20L of 120proof (which in canada is super super cheap compared to 40$ for a 40 oz). Opinions?

Some people salt low wines or mash to lower the boil temp. How much, I couldn't tell ya because I don't do it. You should water down to 30% - 40% Max. The salt might leave a residue that needs washed out well. But I strongly doubt the possibility any of it carrying over. Do you have a specific brand in mind that we, or I can research? I am interested to see how this goes, and what the vets gotta say about it.

To directly answer your question, Yes. If it has alcohol then it will distill.

Will it be palatable, economical, and safe? That's a better question.
