Interesting foam while fermenting

Post by bovillia »

So I am fermenting out 5.5 gallon of Elderberry wine in a 6 gal carboy, it will eventually be brandy.

So I have been watching it today out of pure boredom and observed the following with the foam...

At the top of the hour there will be a 1/2 inch layer of foam across the whole top of the wine. half hour later only 50% coverage, after 45 minutes, it seams to be gone, as in there is no white foam on the top, and then it fills back up and begins again.

It has been in the primary under airlock(yes I like to airlock in primary after I blow air into it and pitched).

It just seamed interesting because it is like clockwork. I am thinking it is because when the foam dissipates, there is a bit less pressure in the carboy and then CO2 come up and bubbles. Maybe it is something else, but either way it is neat to watch.

Oh, I am not worried, I just thought it was a neat thing to watch because it is like clockwork, its still doing it but it is slowed way down. Foam, no foam, foam no foam.
