Re: Take off rate
just under 3l per hour for me, just finished a run. That seems to be the sweet spot for my rig. 1.5" pot still into 3/4 over 1/2 leibig

Re: Take off rate
Doing a run now 200ml in about 10 mins slowed it down to 15-20 mins 200ml still fast drip.

Re: Take off rate
I've done quite a bit of playing with takeoff rate and have found that with my rig there is no benefit to running slower than 3 litres/hour. That's a twisted stream.

Re: Take off rate
I really don't get a stream unless i really turn up the heat, otherwise its a fast drip.

Re: Take off rate
Then turn it up until you do. That's how a pot still is run. It is what it is.

Re: Take off rate
I run a pot still as fast as my product condenser allows...

Re: Take off rate
I didn't know if there was a benefit of running it slower. I thought if i were to run it fast it would strip off flavors like a stripping run.

Re: Take off rate
I find its actually the opposite, a faster run pulls more flavour. Strip runs are full of flavour but are quite smeared thats why they are followed by a spirit run.

Re: Take off rate
So, you would run your stripping and spirit run at the same speed?

Re: Take off rate
no, my stripping run is run at full power. Some folks run both the same, I run my spirit run a bit slower as I've found that works best for my rig and reduces the smearing considerably. For my rig, any slower than the 3l per hour has no benefit but any faster and smearing becomes an issue.

I'm the same as bellybuster.
Snooka, when you have your alc senses dialled in, you'll be able to tell when the product is affected as you crank it up and find your sweet spot.
I too have found that anything below 3L/hr makes no difference, and above causes smearing. So you run as fast as you can without any negative effect And just remember you want flavour from your pot still; a dripping output may be counter-productive.
