I was walking through Frys Electronics and was looking at some fans. I noticed a lot of the 12 volt fans have 3-4 wires coming out of the motor. What are all these extra wires for? 12 volt is just 2 wire????
Don't just throw it together. Take the time to build it right....

Third and fourth wires are usually for temp controlled on and off settings. At least, that's what my research led me to believe, when I was researching fans for my controller. You still just use the red and black wires.

A lot of DC muffin fans have a built in tachometer.

My research shows the same, and working in iT I have lots of old servers and pcs floating around, so I came up with the following contraption, 4 12v 50 cfm fans wired up to 12v 1 amp power supply from a dead router, pulls 200 cfm combined. They are all hooked up to 2 " dbl sanitary tee
