Well i bought DADY yeast and would like to use it to its full potential. Im not making pure whiskey with it though. Im making blackberry shine. Friend o mine wanted to try some and i though it seemed to be a pretty good feat to attempt. Not sellin though. Just a "pass the jar around" thing

No reason to max the yeast. Your quality will be much better if you keep it around 8%. Just cause the yeast can pull it off doesn't mean it will not produce a ton of off flavors in the process.

Then again, my still leaks but i can never fix it. I didnt get a chance to make a teflon/cardboard gasket. Soon im just gonna weld the lid shut and put a larger column on it(2" or so). Right now im runnin 1/2" on 1/4" worm. Its got a ton of pressure behind it but i cant run that setup anymore because i kinked the worm last night in accident

If you can afford the larger one do it. It makes cuts easier cause you don't have to worry about being greedy.

Hmmm. $125 more? That's an easy justification. What kind of commercial swill do you drink right now? Is it around $25 a fifth? The first good batch will cover the cost difference from what you would have spent without it. See you just have to justify it to yourself.

Right now i drink mainly makers mark and crown, wit a lotta miller lite on the side. Also my personal concoction, corn whiskey. Im tryin to justify the $125 but i will almost never make a batch that large, or atleast not of the same kind.

Should probably stop talking about the selling.

for $250-$375 you can make a decent keg still with a liebig.

I wouldn't want my name on a government list.

what IrishEnigma is talking about is the fact that anyone who buys a boiler, complete still or condenser from a company(in the USA as I understand it) has their name put on a list that the TTB receives and has recently been visiting/busting. I certainly would look into building over buying... Nowadays, its much more worth it and it really doesnt take too much previous skill. Just read read read before you build. And NEVER SELL!!!!(call me paranoid if you want, it just aint worth it if you ask me)

I dont think Clawhammer is required to report or even keep a list of names for TTB. They only sell cut copper pieces. Just happens that if you know how to solder and build those pieces can be made into a still much easier than just a sheet of copper.

From this link

http://www.clawhammersupply.com/blogs/m ... hine-legal" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

"Clawhammer Supply is NOT required to report customer information. We don't anticipate ever needing to do so either. The TTB only requires manufacturers of finished, functional equipment to report (again, only if asked). They define a still as, "Any apparatus capable of being used for separating alcoholic or spirituous vapors, or spiritous solutions, or spirits, from spirituous solutions or mixtures..." Clawhammer's product is a kit. As it leaves the door from our shop, it's nothing more than a collection of strategically cut flat copper sheet and unassembled pipe. In the condition that it is sold, it's certainly not capable of being used for boiling or separating alcoholic or spirituous vapors."

good call white lightning, and thanks for the correction. But if you can solder why not just build it from scratch so you can take a bit more pride in saying you built it completely yourself? either way, i guess it dont matter as long as you've got the right tool for the job. I'm just trying to watch out for others making a mistake they may not even know they're making. Once again thanks for the correction though, I know a few years back I was looking at the clawhammer stills, and they are some decent pot stills. But do an HD google search for samohan's pot still, I beileve it can be built for much cheaper and will yield the same result ultimately... whatever choice you make, plan ahead and happy stilling!

I agree completly I like the concept and the look of the clawhammer stills and they should work just fine and I may one day order the 1 gallon just for the enjoyment of building it and as a display piece but I built my keg potstill for far less than $200 and maybe an hours worth of soldering and it works just fine for me. Kinda like my wife she might not be the prettiest girl out there but she treats me right and takes care of me so I love her and tell her that she is second to none.

Not at all trying to bust ya chops either Midwest we are on the same team here, just trying to inform the uninformed

BTW dont tell my wife bout that whole pretty statement she'd beat the hell outta me LOL

Try some "HD Google Searches" for copper sheets. There have been posts here with links to sources. One of the most popular was a source for copper roofing - comes in sizes and guage suitable for still building. Good luck with it if that the direction you decide to go.

I do not accept anything for the booze I make or share ... not even a contribution in supplies - all I ask for is my mason jars back. Call it bartering, or donation or whatever, but you are relocating your likker in return for something else - even if it is supplies. It would be best for them to bring some big case of beer and drink 2 and leave the rest "for the host" ...

+1. Just search and search some more. Hop on Ebay and Amazon. Google search. If you think it's unreliable or not sure you can always post here.
