I cant sodder to save my life....

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

I cant sodder to save my life....

Post by LuckyAddaam »

Actually I can. I can sodder a T a coupler and a cap just fine. but this... this is p!ssing me off :x . For some reason I cannot get the sodder to bond to the 3/4 in tubing going into the 1" pipe. Before i sodder the two i sand the pipe and tube niiice and clean, then add flux, then i use this torch i got from the local hme dpot to get it as hot as i can and add the sodder. I dont think the pipes are getting hot enough. I took the torch and held it to the side of the tubing for at least 2-3 minutes and it never even came close to glowing or melting. I took an hvac class and while in the class we practiced soddering and it was pretty easy  , but we did have an oxygen acetaline torch, not just a propane torch. What can i do?! This project was really just a practice sodder job for when i put together my 2" bokabob. This practice is really letting me know the problems i am going to run into when it comes time to do it for real. How can i get it soddered? should i get on craigslist and find a welder who is willing to not ask questions and pay someone to do it? please help! :tired:
