Easy Bitter Recipe

Post by Odin »

AnneAngelique, a member from the Dutch forum, handed me an increadibly easy and nice recipe for making bitters. What bitters are? Bitters are a very old breed of drink that originally goes back to alcohol being a medicine. Herbs were added to further improve health benefits. Herbs to sooth stomach pains, herbs against fevers, herbs against ... well, pretty much anything. Examples of bitters that survived to this day are the German Jägermeister and the Dutch category of drinks called "Beerenburg" (for more reading, please see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beerenburg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow).

So how can you make your own bitter? And in an easy way? The solution (take that litterally!) AnneAngelique gave me is just great. And that's why I want to share it. Here it goes.

Take 1 liter of 30% neutral.
Add 30 tsp's of instant herbal tea.
Shake until tea grains are dissolved.
Drink & Enjoy!

Choose an instant tea you like. Preferably a herbal tea. It will bring over the herb tastes and some sweetness as well. I use this instant tea:

So now I need your help! Anyone out there with some suggestions on what tea to use in North America or other parts of the world?

Sipping on one as we speak ...

Odin.
