Finally upgrading

So thanks to the many folks here, I started out 3 years ago with the thought of picking up an old family tradition of making good home made liquor. I built a 3 gal pot with a flake stand. I ran that up to the beginning of this year and decided that it was time to upgrade to a 6 gal with 20ft of 1/2 od for the flake stand. I finished the inital build this evening and figured i would share.
I have installed a camco 1500W straight elememt and a harbour freight controller.

Just a suggestion, on that worm can one of these ( http://www.homedepot.com/p/Watts-3-4-in ... /202639687" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow ) on the bottom gives a solid spot for the pipe to come out and another near the top allows a place to hook a garden hose as a drain for hot water off the top.

I would use the one in 1/2" then screw in a 1/2" mip x 1/2" od compression adapter. Drill out the stop in the adapter so the worm tubing will slide right through. You will have a nice tight connection for your flake stand and the booze will only come in contact with the copper.

Thanks was trying not to lock myself in to a specific config in case I get the urge to change it up. The spacers are just cut from 1 1/4 pvc

So any one that has been following this. I did a water test for leaks ( couple minor ) and then a vinegar run, and tonight i did a sac run and I must say pretty proud of the results. Ran 7 liters of box wine and running at full tilt granted its only 110 on a 5500 watt camco straight element I was able to achieve 100 mls every 3 to 3.5 minutes. After about 25 mins I collected 800ish mls. Damn happy I upgraded.

If you don't mind I have a few questions about that boiler. The description on Amazon says it has a vented lid, what does that mean? And also, how sturdy is that lid? Could it hold a 2" column maybe 1ft high? Im looking at the 10 gal model and that's why I ask. And one last thing, do the handles leak at all and are they ss or aluminum rivets?

I'm running on 110, it does take about 60 mins to get the boiler charge going. And another 60 to complete the run.

I'm using 1" c x male adapter with a ss lock nut on both top and bottom of the lid and it holds well. The section of 1" is 10.5 inches the total height is 22", I added the support due to the length of the arm.
But IMO a 2" x 12 column would work but I would get a piece of SS cut to fit the inner lid diameter for support or build a support of sorts and it work. The vent hole in the lid is to one side. If you attempt the 2" I would file the pre drilled hole and cut a new one more to the center. Might have to cut the handle off.
The rivets are ss. Also the handle's do not leak, the lid also fits well enough with the clamps that I do not/have not needed a gasket.
What type of heat you planning on using? I'm running a 5500w lime life straight element on 110 only disappointed at the heat up time. But since I converted from a 1300 cast top hot plate and half the amount of boiler charge I'm running this setup with double the charge in the same amount of time.
