I found the calculation page on the parent site that gives the formula for diluting but what I want to know is what if I take a jar of 55% and a jar of 30% and mix them together? What will the new abv be?
This is just a theoretical amount and ABV. What I am really looking for is a formula that I can use?
Sorry if this is really simple or has already been mentioned somewhere.

Alcohol meter
Re: Calculating abv when mixing alcohol
assuming the quantities are the same, it is a simple averaging calculation - (values ...)/number of values, so (55+30)/2 = 85/2 = 42.5 %

Ah, an example why new people like to flee this place ...oilguy wrote:Alcohol meter
Actually your "answer" is partially correct. The OP said nothing of the type of likker they had, nor if it was processed. You ASSumed that it was straight likker, and if the OP had stated that, then you poor answer would technically be a sub-par solution. However, if the OP had added flavoring and/or sugars, etc, etc (like a SPD, caramelized sugar, etc, etc) then a alcohol meter is absolutely useless

The law of averages.
Like this post any many others, the law applies the same.
By the end of it there will be an average concensus a little like a distilling process. There may be crap at the start, good stuff in the middle and you're left with stuff you aint sure about but could be useful.
If all posts were put to the vote by the posters as to the correctness we would average all of our opinions and come up with the average truth.
So i guess the longer the post the better quality of answer/truth (abv)
Or i could be talking/puking absolute crap!
