Problem?

Post by Taaser »

So I ran my very first batch of sweet feed shine on Monday. It turned out alright learned a few things I did wrong and learned more about my Reflux Still. After the run, I mixed up 2 buckets of sugar was using 17 lbs of sugar 6 gallons of water and a 48 hour Turbo Yeast with AG. Before adding the yeast in I checked the ABV % and it said 12% and a SG of 1.06 or so. So i added the yeast, it started bubbling later that night but it was a different kind of bubble, almost like when you poor a soda over ice, gets kinda foamy. The following day i check it after work and it was rolling like it should i guess bubbles and all. Came home from work yesterday which was Thursday to find that it had stopped bubbling all together and the ABV now said 0% and it had a gravity of under 1.0 so i assume its ready to go.... I tasted it and it was bitter with no sugar taste what so ever.

Does this sound right? This is my second time running my still and I want it to be better then the first. Also first time using this sugar wash. I was expecting it to bubble until atleast Sunday or Monday.

No, yes, maybe, more info, good advice. No I think that the almost lb of sugar per gal would be more than 12%. Yes 1.0 sounds like it is ready and I think it is. Maybe, If in doubt taste it. Is it sweet? If so not done, recheck FG. Does it taste like alcohol/ beer? Yes then more than likely done. More infoI would stick to the tried and true section of the forum untill you what you are doing a little more. The washes there have been done lots and if you read all of the thread then you will more than likely know what to look for and kind of yeast and ferment temps etc. etc. etc. The questions, OK there most likely won't be many questions if you read entire thread. Some are way to long and don't have to read all of it but first 10 pages would work. Good advice You won't find turbos ( I don't think) in tried and true because most here are not after speed they are after taste and want to make the best drop possible. If you find turbos palatable then you will fall in love with good yeast. :D :esurprised:  sorrry so long

I have noticed alot of stuff i have been reading no one uses turbo's. I think i made a mistake when i bought that type of yeast. I may try something else for the next one and see how it does. Thank you for the info.
