Just starting out
Howdy , I have just started my first batch of mash and completed my still setup. I am very excited to finally be trying this after alot of years of day dreaming. My first batch will be a corn syrup based mash just to get the practice and see if i can correctly maintain mash and produce some actual product. I am new at this but have spent countless hours reading and watching videos via the net if anyone has any advice Im all ears . Ty

Welcome to HD, don't believe all the video's on the net as it is one persons opinion and not always right. Spend some time in the New Distillers Reading Lounge and a lot of your questions will be answered. This is the largest home distilling forum on the internet with a lot of experience listen to what members have to say as they are here to help. It's a great hobby but a word of warning IT'S ADDICTIVE!

Just like Bushman said... I have watched them Vids as well and have come to a conclusion that many of these vids will get you ether hurt or sick in the end..Bushman wrote:Welcome to HD, don't believe all the video's on the net as it is one persons opinion and not always right.
Some are just not sanitary and or will get you sick if you drink, others will get you to blow your still up in worst case. I too am new to this forum, and there are a few forums that you could have joined.. but I too joined this one as it seems to be more along the line truth then the liars table. One eye'd willy siting there tellin you how when he made swamp Juice.. they used battery acid in his Mash....
Read... Ask Questions..
I hope you enjoy your new Crafting Hobble like I have. I started at wine and did not stop there.. move on to Brandy because of a bad wine...NOT BAD as in Pour out Vinger... Bad like in the Nasty tasting Cheep wine you can find in the Wine'os bag bad... So Here we are...
Have fun and hope your first batch tastes as good as my first batch..
Cheers..

Yeah I have been using this forum to verify information from other sources and then I realized ..I should join up haha. I am trying to find something about fermenting temps now my mash seems to be doing good but i feel like its too warm Its currently running between 80-85 degrees. Shouldnt I be shooting for a little closer to 76?

Re: Just starting out
Depends on the type of yeast. If it's a baker's yeast, it's perfect. 76 is ok for most.

Snap crackle pop, fermentation. Let it be and it will finish up. Keep reading and good luck.
