Hello from SW. Washington state
I thought I posted already but don't see it. So I'll try again.
I'm very new to distilling. So far the most i know is what I've read and what I've drank.
I'm picking up a 15.5gal keg to build a still out of soon. Just a basic column with worm. NO INTERNET purchases.
Well, I really just wanted to get my first post outta the way and say hello. I'm looking forward to all the knowledge i am sure to gain on HD.
Thx.

Welcome from another member from the Evergreen State. First posts need to be approved before further posting, thus you did have two welcome posts which I deleted the duplicate. Feel free to post and ask questions, lots of great info here!

Welcome to the boards I'm from the north.
Basic column with a worm...hrmm... I think you might have some terminology mix ups. Are you planning on a reflux rig, or pot still? If so, which design?
Better yet, what kind of spirits do you want to make?

Pretty much like this

With a coiled copper tubing at the end.

Re: Hello from SW. Washington state
If you build it with a liebig condenser like that you don't need a worm. That would be redundant.

Greetings to another Washingtonian. I'm a newbie as well. Having great success with UJSSM. Highly recommend it if you are looking for a recipe to start with.

I think that all the great local beers and home brewers get us moving in the right direction.
There is no such thing as a stupid question....... Unless you didn't research it first.

Re: Hello from SW. Washington state
Welcome, you can't run a still without a condenser weather it is a worm in a bucket or liebig or shotgun or any number of other configurations, you have to be able to cool the steam back to liquid and that's what a condenser does, and I would like to give a little advice I've given repeatedly, since you are just beginning to build don't even bother with a worm condenser, they are a pain in the ass. Build it from the beginning with a liebig. They cost about the same and are much easier to deal with. And do a lot of reading, then do a lot more.PNW_shineboy wrote:Eventually i want a condenser but for now to start practicing it'll just be without.
