Post Your Packing Retainer

Post by bearriver »

In a recent unrelated thread, members were posting their solutions for keeping packing inside the column. This has me thinking the topic deserves it's own thread. I want to encourage anyone who would like to post their solutions, to do it here. I would also like to share my solution that took me 10 minutes earlier this afternoon.

Please dont link or discuss the sources that HD has declared unwelcome, so we can keep the thread on topic.

I cut a scrap piece of copper around the same size as my pipe, then drilled a hole near the middle (nothing was measured). After affixing it to a drill, I rounded the edge against my Leatherman tool's file till it fit my column's ID perfectly. I drilled many random holes into the face, and snipped off 2 sides so it could slide past the ferrule.
