hey guys, been reading these forums for quite a while and got caught up in some of the benefits of using a double boiler. I often rush to distill without clearing the mash and have had scorch on a run or two. its kind of a take on a double boiler but using the boiler itself as the jacket as it seems a big draw back of a double boiler is the heat loss. I think this way it may help in that situation. I'm sure many of you out there have more insight into the viability of a system like this and could maybe steer me either away from a bad idea or make this more viable or safe alternative.
the glycol relief would also be used as the fill port and the boiler and glycol vessel would both be welded together at the base where they meet. also could use oil instead of the glycol but I read that the food grade glycol(not sure of exact name) has better life or heat transfer properties(could also be wrong about this).
also, I haven't really looked into the dimensions yet but im sure there would be surface contact of the glycol tank to the mash dimensions that I would have to work out.
