Maybe someone can help me out here? I'm absolutely new to this hobby. I'm aiming in this stage for some neutral to make limoncello with. Or some vodka. Or some gin, maybe.
Built myself a potstill (stainless pressure cooker of 18 liter, everything above it copper, gasket wrapped in Teflon tape) that works rather fine. I gave the copper a citric acid bath, ran some vinegar trough it, did two sac runs with cheap wine.
So I thought I was ready for my first run. Got myself a nice 25l Turbo-sugarwash and stripped it. Tossed out 200 ml to fire up my barbeque next summer. Then I put in some sodium carbonate and aired it for a week with one of those aquarium airstones. (you see, I read the forums
Ran it a second time trough my still, nice and slow. Left out the first 750 ml and started collecting until I got +/- 50%. Collected a bit more (tails) to be reused later. And although it smells rather ok, I get this nasty metallic taste in my distillate. It seems to get better towards the end of the batch, but stil. The funny thing is that what I collected at +/- 40% smells a little strange but tastes good, like a nice vodka. I'm all confused now.
Didn't I clean my still thorougly enough? Should I repeat the whole procedure? Should I throw away my result or run it a third time (after cleaning)?
