Well, every since I turned 21, my drink of choice...
When I first started drinking, I tried beer, but didn't like how long it took to get buzzed, and how much you had to piss after drinking enough to get buzzed.
Tried the harder stuff and found I had a real taste for good old Jack Daniels. That has been my drink of choice for years. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good
cold beer here and then, but if I am in the mood to drink my hell of a work day away, its either my shine or good old Jack. Mixed with Mt. Dew or doing shots.
I have a pretty crappy job, lots of stress, idiots, and such, so I drink a few days out of the week.

Have you tried nuke ageing with JD grilling chips? That will make your shine taste a lot like JD but......well.......better.
But what the heck do I know.....I am still learning.

Jack is crap. If a blind monkey made better hootch, I wouldn't have my shocked face on. For a new home distiller this is a good thing. It is like having an exciting new world opening up.

My drink of choice used to be Jim Beam. Until I had my own. Had some JB 5 Year Old Stuff the other day. Couldn't even finish the shot glass. So much heads. I pulled out a bottle of my late heads to rinse my mouth out. Lol

+1 on Bellybuster comment about get another job. Life is too short to waste doing something you hate, it will shorten your life.
For thirty years I truly thought I didn't like whiskey, I found out I just couldn't cut Jim or Jack. I found out great whiskey/whisky is wonderful stuff. Malt/Grain, water, yeast and time on oak can be magic.
There is a plus, it shouldn't take too long to learn to craft a spirit you are very proud to share!

Used to drink Jim beam, never did like the taste of jack. Since I've made my own, I'm proud to say I haven't bought any commercial stuff cept for wine. Not planning to either!

One question I get asked at tastings all the frickin time is "How does it compare to JD"? Hate that question. Just smile and say " There is no comparison. I don't make crap".
One sip and damn near everyone agrees.
Some just like bad likker.

Never thought of that. Its brilliant. Im going to give it a try on my next run. Can you give me the best way to do it, or should I just experiment to find the best way?StillLearning1 wrote:Have you tried nuke ageing with JD grilling chips? Way funny. Apparently I am developing some form of dyslexia. I thought you were 21 from your OP title. It didn't click until I got to the end of your post. (smacks himself in the forehead)...
Thought I was talking to someone younger than me for the first time... Nope.

jack is the spirit equivalent of bud. just shows what marketing can do.
aimed at the young, stupid and the cheap. over time your tastes get more refined then you have 2 choices make your own or drop big bucks on a good bottle.

Re: Well, every since I turned 21, my drink of choice...
There is a huge thread on nuke ageing somewhere here. I'd try to find that. Lots of different way the chips can be used. Its good to figure out what works for you. And btw, always remember, your making drinks that YOU are happy with. JD may be the worst crap ever made, but if you like it that's all that matters!Fermented1 wrote:Never thought of that. Lol, hey man its different strokes for different folks!
At least homemade "JD" will have cuts. That's a start for realizing how good whiskey can actually be.
