Traveling to Portland OR
Next week! My plan is to check out a bunch of distilleries and take in the Oregon atmosphere. This will be my first time in Oregon, anyone have any helpful tips? Places that are a must see?

Check out Bridgeport Brewery get some pizza & beer. The building its in, was the old cordage company, there are some displays that show some of them, and the wood that was used to build it was old growth Douglas Fir that was cut right there and sawn. There's a little eatery called the Screen Door they have some really good southern comfort style food, chicken & waffles are the bomb! There is a brewing supply place called F.H Steinbart that has the best selection of brewing and distilling supplies I know of. There's Willamette Falls although it's more impressive during a flood. The Columbia gorge and scenic byway. Several cool bars and pubs in the downtown area.

Portland is pretty well known for Distillery Row.

Just another thought and not places to see but Oregon does not have any sales tax so if you want to purchase something to take home it's a great place to shop. For viewing if you are driving and have an extra day I would go up the Oregon Coast not many places in the US have their coastal views!

I live on the California coast =) But will do, our cellar master and I are going to head to Eugene after we do distillery row. I'm really excited, I extended my trip through the 14th of Nov.

Great suggestions, I'm putting these places down in my notebook. Thanks!

What are your plans in Eugene? Wineries? Sight seeing? Ocean? Mountains?
There is no such thing as a stupid question....... Unless you didn't research it first.

Or Breweries? Thirteen small breweries around Eugene. The ones you must visit are Ninkasi, Hop Valley, Falling Sky and Oakshire. All small operations with delicious beer.

There is also Bull Run Distillery in NW Portland. ...and the two McMenamins distilleries, one in Troutdale(just past Gresham) Edgefield Distillery, and one in Hillsboro, at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, CPR Distillery.
...and Clear Creek is in NW P-town as well, but they just got bought out by, I think, Hood River Distillery. Steve, the original owner, is still there as an advisor and spokesman, and supposedly nothing in operations is changing, but they might not be doing tours anymore.
Food-wise stop in at Pok Pok (Thai) for some their bodacious "Ikes Vietnamese Fish Sauce Wings" (sticky, garlicky deliciousness, ...and spicy if you want) You won't be disappointed. Their Whiskey Soda Lounge is catty-corner across the street, and has a whole slew of different whiskey and whisky, drinking vinegars(have not tried any of those) and funky Asian music.
If you like the real deal Sichuan(Szechuan) food, stop by Lucky Strike in SE Portland. Go at Happy Hour for a good deal. I highly recommend the Guinness Pork Ribs, and Beans & Beans(for an unusual taste). Everything on the HH menu is great. My B-I-L, who is "the white guy" at a Chinese airline (Hainan) at SEA-TAC brings all of the visiting execs and company employees to Portland for sales-tax-free-shopping junkets(they go nuts on the shopping) and they all rave about Lucky Strike. .....nope, I'm not Asian either, just eat a lot of Asian food. Sushi is my fave, and Ichidai in SE is one of the best in town. Say hi to Aki if you stop there.
Base Camp Brewing is in SE, and makes good beer.
If Sour Beers are your thing, stop by Cascade Brewing Barrel House in SE.
Way too many good brewers here to tour them all in a short visit though, ....same goes with good food.
.....oh yeah, and the food cart pods, like Cartlandia and Cartopia. There are like 10 different food cart "villages" all over town, and there are some real gems among them. If you are with a local, they will know where to go.
Edit:
Touristy stuff. A drive up the Columbia River Gorge to Multnomah Falls and maybe stop at Vista House(a WPA Project from the Great Depression days) for a terrific view, and a trip up to historic Timberline Lodge(also a WPA Project) on Mt. Hood(year-round skiing) are both recommended if the weather isn't too shitty and there happens to be good visibility.

The Edgefield is on of my favorite places in the USA - eat from their garden - drink from their orchards - play in their playground for adults... awesome.
When i work in Portland that is where I like to stay while the muckity mucks stay downtown.
My last trip to Clear Creek was a BUST - no tours, and I found out that no matter how good their apple brandy is... I don't like it

We stock Edgefield wines and booze at the house. Black Rabbit Red and their Pinot are the household favorites.
#7 is a great herbal liquor, and their new rum is pretty good.
Enjoy the OTHER Portland.
My Uncke Mo taught me how to make apple Jack when I was in 6th Grade.
