OK, Got A question....

Post by Fermented1 »

I have been going through the forum alot. Enjoying the info, and learning alot. I have seen in multiple posts and recipes, that some use tomato paste in the mix, but can't find
the reason why. I personally HATE tomatoes, but if it helps with the fermenting, then I would really like to know. Anyone willing to clue me in on its use in the mix?? Thanks

Dont need it unless youre making something devoid of nutrients heavy on the refined sugar. What are you making?

I myself find that the taste does carry over and I don't care for it. I like Birwatchers for cleaning but nothing else.

I've fermented over 1,000 gallons of BW so far. Not once have I or anyone noticed any Tomato flavor carry.

It definitely had just a hint of tomato, not something I want in my drink. Don't know if I'm just sensitive to tomatoes or what but it was definitely there. Not as bad as the tomato wine tho  When I get some carboys freed up I might give it another go and see because I still have some tomato paste but for the most part I like doing the all bran with wheat because if somehow any flavor does carry over I don't mind wheat.

Yikes, I would think a single sip of tomato wine would sensitize your taste buds to that flavor for life.

I am not really up on pure sugar washes. I will have to try some for practice , but If the tomato paste is carrying over and you don't like it , and it is a nutrient that you need . Why not use brewers yeast and a ground up multi vitamin for nutrients in an all sugar wash? Or try the Deathwish wheatgerm recipe. That is the only sugar wash I have made and it was very simple,

All bran makes a great neutral or lightly flavored drink as well.

I'm with thatguy ^^^^ I like All Bran and it works both ways so I don't really find the need for Birdwatchers, Just saying I've tried it and for me I could taste the tomato and don't use it as a result. I do fruit for the most part but the wife likes Kahlua so the neutral is for her. I save a bottle or two of the hearts from the all bran for sampling and the rest goes to neutral. I'm happy, shes happy and life is good. :D
