I have a batch of BlackBerry wine I am about to run and I have saved a jar of BlackBerry juice to shoot it with to up the flavor.

This calls to mind something else I have been pondering. Adding corn and fresh barley into the thumper to amp up the grain flavor in my finish product. After reading this thread it seems goose has already been doing that.
Red Rim how much cinnamon are you using to shoot with. I got a run of pear cider to run and am going to shoot it with ginger.
welcome aboard some of us are ornery old coots but if you do a lot of
reading and don't ask stupid questions you'll be alright most are

Well goose said on an up right outfit to shoot the kettle. I don't know what an up right outfit is but it sounds like you should be ok shooting the boiler.

That being said I have zero experience and don't know what I'm talking about!

Yea I guess your right. I never even thought about shooting a reflux....but then again I only have a pot still....decided for my needs to go thumper instead of reflux. Now all I need is some play money....maybe Santa will bring me some copper. Lol

Upright = column. Even pot still with column and liebeg. Most column just happen to be reflux.

Or a regular pot still versus a more than hobby grounhog . I come close to speaking 'Goos Eye' and I'm not totally clear on this one .

I've heard of this technique, for making gin via a single distillation by putting the herbals into the thumper, but I've not tried it myself. Has anyone else tried it and found good results?

Groundhog aint nothin but another name for a coffin.
they got corners mostly.
There a couple thangs the ole boys aint ever charged or seen
charged an that's gin but you figure it comin off at 60 there
40 more somethin in it.
Ole boys learned shootin from kin that was doin in in the
1870s or so the story goes. Long before this latest blueridge distillery
there was on that went back to the 1870s. It was world
mown for rye whiskey. Ole boys kin cooked for em an on
weekend they would head back home. It closed in the
30s if the story is right. They was cooks long before that job.

Well friends, holidays are over....and the time has come!!!

I just ordered a $100 worth of copper and fittings that should be here soon!

I should be up and thumping by march at the latest and after a few runs to get used to the new addition to my still Ill be ready to try this!!

I'm just so excited to start building again I just had to tell the only ppl I know that would appreciate my excitement!

Anybody had time to mess with this yet?

This is what I did and man it works great. The flavor change is immediate and no shuting down needed. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 16&t=47594

That looks like a hell of an idea! And I think it could work with the single hole thump design also. I will certainly have that on my mind now. I'm guessing the liquid gets pre-heated nicely that way also? I noticed that thread was about a year old also, any improvement's either by design or usage since then?

I don't use my pot still much anymore. No improvements needed on it works great. Just have room in the chamber for expansion if its liquid don't need much it doesn't get overly hot. The one thing I would do if I were you is just use two valves and add more after the first shot. Three valves is over kill but that's how I do things and I'm forgetful so it works good for me.

Will keep this in mind for sure. Probably gonna try my poor man method of just unattaching the liebig and shooting it there first. Depending how big a pain that is I may very well use your idea!

Use your head when you shootin cause you will
be steam. Also you pour it in with a funnel hold it off a bit so it can
get air an pour quicker.

If your gonna go that way just remember its gonna be hot and steamy and Scarry. Slow is steady steady is smooth smooth is fast. Try to rush and you will fumble fuck yourself to death... Maybe literally.

Oh yea.....like I say I want to be 100% comfortable with the thumper before I even think about trying this. I'm not a big fan of being burnt! Lol.

And to goose: a funnel is pretty much gonna be my whole system. But then again I will probably change my mind again by the time I actually do it.

My friend if you ever have any secrets to share I will listen if no one else will! This forum has some of the smartest folks around on it anyone can tell that. But one thing being smart can't duplicate is having experience... I feel like from reading your post you have more experience than most could gather in 3 lifetimes.

Technical terms and information are nice sometimes, but you talk like I do, like everyone where I am does.

I guess I'm just saying thanks for all the help and wisdom. Its greatly appreciated.

 Another Goose fan . He really fills in the gaps for me from my early days when I was simply told : Get wood , Fetch that , Gather that , Transport this and keep your damned mouth shut . There is a great difference between being involved in distilling and being a distiller .
