Little or nothing to do with distillation.

What the hell is this thing ?

Post by Bohunk »

At a farm auction a friend bought an old copper boiler that had been turned into a still, along with the boiler came this copper bucket, punched full of holes. Never saw anything like it before, anyone know what it is, or what it was used for ??

Thanks, the Ole Bohunk

The owner, being an old world man possessing practical sense, would use his still boiler for non-alcoholic purposes.

That thing could be useful for many basic & common tasks, such as cooking food.

I saw a travel alarm clock that looked similar to that after we pulled the trigger on a 12 gauge shotgun on it for waking us too early while we were away on a fishing/drinking trip....

I'd be guessing same as other guys. Cook grains and lift out. And multiple use for boiling pot.

Goose, if you happen to pop in, any of them ol' boys educate us a bit?

Fill it with chard wood and drop it in the mixing barrel.

I would guess it is for flavouring. If it fits inside the boiler I suspect that is what it would have been used for.

All good guesses, wish I could talk to the old gent who made it and find out. Back in the country they sell old copper boilers set up to run a little shine every once in a while. I told an auctioneer to buy them all and I'd pay for them, but he's scared to get involved.
Thanks for you help guys
