First Run....Stinks!! Help please!!

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

"There is more than one way to skin a cat."

Would you argue with a taxidermist about the best way to skin a cat, when he's probably done it hundreds of times?

In retrospect, you should have performed more research on yeast, fermentation and proven recipes before you ever considered making your wash. Let's be honest about it, you did far more wrong than right when making that wash. Learn from that.
Had you read the required reading and understood how to make wash properly before tossing a bunch of crap in a bucket, you'd have probably avoided most all the issues you've encountered thus far.

You cannot improve the wheel without first understanding how the wheel works. Nor can you improve a process you don't yet understand.

Slow down and focus your ambition on long-term goals. Knowledge before action. Use your ambition to gain the knowledge necessary to avoid mistakes, rather than searching for knowledge after you've made mistakes.

Who am I arguing with? No one. I am just saying what I have done. This started by me saying...I smell sulfur....I was told to throw it away...I said it was only 5 hours old...some one said use yeast nutrients....I did not have any so I used vitamins...now I am arguing. Where is the argument? I realized my mistake...made the changes...now my new batch, berry wine is fermenting well. That is because I read and listened. I learned a lot so what is the problem?

Notice there's a 10-month lapse while I got my shizz together and did some leaning via immersion in what's known as "mandatory reading". The more I read, the more I needed to read. Know what I mean?

Fortunately, I "got it" in this regard early on and Rad only yelled at me later on when I honestly deserved it. I felt at that point that I had arrived. :ewink:
