Newbie from Central Florida

Post by countrydew »

Hello Everyone!
Just wanted to say that it is a Honor to be able to join this site. There is so much talent here!
I started on this quest for shine approximately 1 year ago when my neighbor came to me and asked what i thought about trying to make some whiskey. Ever since then I have learned almost everything I know from the information on this site. We built a 6 gal pot still with thumper and condenser. Have had some good runs and some bad runs, One thing I know for sure is that I am totally addicted to this hobby now and I am really looking forward to getting advice from everyone here.

my neighbor and i built a 6 gallon stainless pot still with 2 gallon stainless pot for thump and a big tub for condenser. we used 5/8 copper tube to connect everything, works great! the highest % we have got off of it is 75%. i would like to get a little higher personally at least 80%.normally get about 60%-65% after cuts. I have had good sucess with UJSSM. probably made about 5 gallons of shine total. Tried a coupe of all Grain and had a little success. Now i an trying to make a rice vodka without sugar using High temp enzymes. I posted this recipie on "MY FIRST" in the forum. This is my first mash in about 2 months. Had alot going on and couldnt get to it. I,m excited to me making another one. wish i had time to do more!

Welcome to the forums. I lived most of my mid teens to early adult life along the east coast of FL, from Cape Canaveral down to Vero Beach. Had a blast and sometimes miss it.

Well, no accounting for the "wife factor". Mine still won't drink my likker - thinks it'll make her go blind.

FYI , im also thinking about building a Reflux from a 15.5 gal keg. I purchased a Tri clamp with a seal and a 2" diameter 10 " long copper collum with flange .I have some reading ahead of me about building one correctly.

The more I read the more im thinking about building a flute. I would like to make a "flapper" like I seen Googe make! maybe with down commers though. I really like the "Flapper Plate" idea. I will try to find some 3" or 4" pipe at the scrap yard. This will be an expensive build for me but what the Hell! Im a ToolMaker so I should be able to build one of these bad boys. Ill be Putting a Rough Draft together in a few weeks to start with!
