Pitcing wood chips into my likker

Post by Fishkiller68 »

Any suggestions on how much wood chips one should pitch into a quart sized jar of likker to get good flavor that isn't too over the top oaky? I am using medium char American oack chips I got from a homebrew shop.

Dad is spot on, I use less and age for longer seems to work good for me. I think there was a formula for this and think it was about 13 sq. inches of wood pur quart. That was a bit much for me. Try different amounts and test often.

If you're using chips, I found it best to do it by weight. I use about 1 oz per quart filled about 4/5 full. I nuke it 3 cycles and then age it without the chips in gallon pickle jars about 3/4 full. If you use sticks, then best to use the square inch method. T-Pee has a good thread about his aging method using sticks - http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =4&t=50348 .
