Had an idea slap me in the face today, and I know I'm not smart enough to be the first one to have come up with this. It seems like a fun marriage of my two booze hobbies, and a challange for my limited patience
The idea is to use the same grain bill to make an all grain barley whiskey And a high gravity barleywine with lots of residual sweetness, and mix them the way they make port. The whiskey would have to be made first and set aside to age a little on some used oak, for several months at the minimum but not probably longer than a year.
Then (much later) when the barleywine is brewed finished fermenting, add enough of the whiskey to bring the ABV up to about 18%. Additional bulk and bottle aging of the finished barley "port" would probably help this to come out more sophisticated and less like a cheap boilermaker.
But then I do like me a good boilmaker when I'm in the mood
Anybody ever done this, or thought about it?

I buy all my liquor at the hardware store.
