corny keg lid options
Anybody convert a corny lid to a 2" fitting without welding the lid to the top?

My boiler used to be an 80gal soda syrup keg, i cut it down to 20gal. the lids are the same as a regular corny, i cut a hole in mine & welded a coupling on & made a ptfe gasket. i use a 2" copper reducer to connect my collumn, slip joint.

In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Do you get any reflux going with that coil wrap on your column? I almost did that to mine once, but then got sidetracked and never came back to it

80 gal cut down to 20 gal. When I first read it I thought it was a screw up. As I scrolled down I realized maybe the screw up was mine. I would like to see a bigger pic. Would you mind showing a bigger pic of boiler.

Yes, thats a thermo. i use it as a guide to know how much hooch is left. i hated to cut the tank but i had no need for anything that big.

What size coupling did you get to fit in there, thats how I want to do mine, so I could put another uncut lid back on if I wanted. Its at least a 10 gallon corny, been using a pan and bolt system but I think I would like a couplingfirewater69 wrote:My boiler used to be an 80gal soda syrup keg, i cut it down to 20gal. the lids are the same as a regular corny, i cut a hole in mine & welded a coupling on & made a ptfe gasket. i use a 2" copper reducer to connect my collumn, slip joint.

Sorry Jake, I think I got off topic.
Re: corny keg lid options
I pulled the fittings and put some threaded rod in place. soldered a 5 or 6 inch pan to a copper fitting. 2 inch pipe has a strut clamped to it and i slide threaded rod through the strut, washers and wing nuts to clamp it down. Would be nice if I could just have a fitting on a lid but whatever works, been a few yearsHalfbaked wrote:Sorry Jake, I think I got off topic.

McMaster Carr is where i ordered it from. i machined a hole in the cap on the mill and welded it on.

It's welded from the bottom, there is not enough room on top ,i'll add another pic later. You'll see then that my tig skills are not that good.
