Yeast for Rum
Just wondering if anyone has experimented with different strains of "Rum Yeast"? I want to start trying some different strains in my washes and was wondering if anyone has an informed decision on whether these special strains do lend themselves to improving the final product? I've watched a lot of videos on rum distilleries and choice of yeast seems to be what makes a "good rum". Thanks all
Re: Yeast for Rum
The general consensus is that bakers yeast has a base of molasses so that works!

The two yeasts I have readily available as far as bakers yeasts go are fleichmans, and red star. Of the two, I like red star the best. It seems to take off better.

Experimented with yeast. I used bakery dedicated bayanusów, and now I'm waiting for the wild from Spain.
Bakery sometimes feel in the distillate, coobra rum (dedicated) give sharp distillate, bayanusy fared best.

Baker's yeast is grown using molasses as it's growing culture. Many distilleries propagate their own varieties of yeast to lend its own distinct qualities to the finished product, but I think you would be hard pressed to find any of them on the open market.
