running a still in the winter
Running a still when the temp outside is below freezing, is it possible and if so does it have any effect on quality of product?

Quality depends on the fermentation.
Possible? Yes...to a point. You may get a tiny amount of ABV increase due to passive reflux depending on the height of your column but that is open to conjecture.

Its a pot still I had trouble getting paste to harden bc of the vapor was condensing and keeping it wet and also I could here condensed vapor dripping in the thumper

Paste it up earlier in the run during warmup before the rig really begins putting out vapor so it gets a chance to cook and harden.

Ok sounds good. Wat about the vapor that is condensing in the lyne arm and dripping in the thumper is it possible it could over fill the thumper?

If your thumper is the right size it shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe you could insulate the lyne arm and other parts if needed. Not so much to keep the heat in, but to keep the cold out.

+1 on insulation. Some of that foil tape would work wellS-Cackalacky wrote:Maybe you could insulate the lyne arm and other parts if needed. Not so much to keep the heat in, but to keep the cold out.

The dimensions of your thumper should at lest be 1/3 of you boiler, then you are golden...countr3y boy wrote:Ok sounds good. Wat about the vapor that is condensing in the lyne arm and dripping in the thumper is it possible it could over fill the thumper?
