My 2" Boka Build

Post by Deerhunter »

I didn't think I could pull it off but with all the research and reading I have done on this site and with all the help from you guys I've managed to pull it off. I think I will be building a Graham condenser for my product cooling.

One idea I would like to throw out there is that I would like to solder a piece of #10 or #8 copper wire through the bottom of my column to help keep the copper mesh from dropping into the pot. Will this effect the operation of the still by doing this? It would just be a single strip of wire. :P

I use a 1/4 copper pipe bent into a circle(like a spring clip) or the letter C and push it up in there after my mesh is in.
Works for me.

I made a little wire cage out of 14 gauge copper wire. It holds up a column of glass marbles.

Looks nice Deerhunter. The plate section cleaned up real good. LIke the modular approach. You might want that sight glass up top but I guess that's the beauty of modular, you can put it top, bottom or middle for that matter.

Humbledore, I read in one of your past posts that you recommend putting it above the plates. Might just order a second one. Two can't hurt, top and bottom but have plenty time for that later on. Need to get my pot and heat source and work on my product condenser. Would like to get up and running by the summer.

I would put it on top of the column but below the plates so you can see the top of the packing. There are several threads where people have done that. Either way it would be entertaining during the run.

Above the mesh so you may even see some bubble action.

Nice build...and pretty soldering.
You should only need a small Graham for this one.
I guess it will also be made in copper?

Received my needle valve today. Think I will be changing my double coil to a cold finger above the plates.

Like Belly said, your mesh will hold itself. If you don't have it packed that tight it is way too loose. Pack it tight enough so it is hard to get out and you will get better results.

Nice lookin' build
