Half Gallon Mason Jars
Got 6 at Walmart for the same price as 12 Quart.. helps with consistent oaking and storage.. Just a heads up to all. They are of course wide mouth so may lend themselves to an oak lid.

Yep. Use them quite frequently myself!
Great for making a nice-sized batch of 'cellos.

I get mine at a True Value so they're in many hardware stores that carry home canning goodies.

Re: Half Gallon Mason Jars
I purchased a bunch at Goodwill in great shape for a fraction of the cost. Use them all the time! I also at a garage sale a few years ago bought a 4 gallon and a 2 gallon Ball Jars (not sure where you can buy them), I use those for oaking before putting them in the barrel. If you have never seen one they come with a glass lid.

Re: Half Gallon Mason Jars
I use the half gallon jars all the time. They are great for small batch experiments, storage, or just about anything. I prefer the jars over (small neck) half gallon jugs. And I prefer wide mouth over regular size lids too. Makes it easier to get bigger pieces of fruit in/out the jar for PD's etc...
We can/freeze a lot of our garden in the summer and fall, so we use a lot of jars for that also. We've used Mason, Ball, Kerr, and even the walmart brand jars, all with good luck. Don't really have a preference of brand. Any of them will last you for years, with proper handling and care.
I think you'll like those. You can usually find them on sale at various places in the late fall or early summer. Harder to find in summer and early fall around here, because everybody raises a garden.

Simple Lil' Pot Still, no temp guage, no carbon, no scrubbers, nuthin' fancy. Sometimes use a thumper, sometimes don't.
