Hello

Post by SS396 »

Just a short intro here. Ive been making wines and spirits for a few years now. Learned the trade from a close family friend in W.V. I'm a welder by trade so I am able to make almost all of my own equipment. Nothing better than nice shiny stainless EVERYTHING! I've been a long time lurker here and finally decided to ask for resolutions to a problem Im not able to solve. Thanks for having me!

Welcome to HD. Glad you are here. Be sure and do a bunch of reading before you build your masterpiece (which I cant wait to see pics of). Stainless is awesome but you should study up on the virtues of having some copper in your vapor stream...

Chevelle would be the correct answer, everybody has a camaro.....lol. No pictures up yet, nothing different than the norm. Planning a reflux at the moment but not to far yet. Haven't decided if I want to waste money on a sight glass or two for some wow effect.

Welcome to HD!
Your preference is reflux, I'd look into a modular design ..That way when you decide on a change, its quick and easy ..I had a '68 SS396 chevelle and a '69 SS427 chevelle ..
Just sold some SS396 hubcaps ..Hope you're readn the Parent site as well.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Never ran a reflux but I'm up in the air as to build or buy due to current copper prices.

I think you could do either fairly cheap for a starter rig ..
Building takes time, effort, and money ..Buying just takes some money ..
You could get buy cheaper probably starting with a keg, burner, and homemade 2" potstill w/liebig setup ...Or, look around, study some more and buy something that you will be satisfied with ..
I wouldn't worry about any purchases under 25gal or so ..Small hobby scale safe imo. :)

SS396...hmmmm, I used to have one...1967. Loved it. It turned heads when I drove by. And that "throaty" rumble...nothing sounds like a big block Chevy. I wish I still had it.

Welcome aboard. Grab a seat and start reading. Lots of knowledge here. "Read & heed" what the mentors say. You may not understand at first, but soon you'll know why the answers given are what they are.

Been readin for while and trying this and that. I don't learn well from reading but I do it over and over anyway. I like stuff broke down barney style but I'm best by just doing it. I don't know the all the acronyms you guys use and I have to Google them half the time to figure out what the hell yins are talking about...lol. I wasnt sure about joining/posting for "discreteness" but I'm only doing research for a Chem class. ;)

Welcome, post a pic of the car! I am one of the "everybody" has a Camaro. 1969 with a LS1 swap. It's been in the family since I was in high school...somewhere around 1993ish. dad traded a wore out diesel work truck and 1k dollars for it back then, about 2000 dollars total. I actually drove it to work today. I love cars and trucks!
