Hi all,
This is my first post, I just wanted to say hello.
I hope to start experimenting in the coming months and this so far seems like a great resource.
I'm a huge bourbon fan with a decent selection at home and it's my love of bourbon that's got me wanting to make my own one day.
I'm not looking to jump into anything right away but looking to get a better understanding of distilling and barrel ageing.
I've done a few home brews in the past but only from kits and have really enjoyed both the fermenting process and the subsequent drinking. I received a Wasmund's rye barrel ageing kit recently for a birthday present and it's going to be great to see how it changes over time. I see the next step as using my own spirit.
Thanks!
Chris

I don't have anything yet and I'm still not sure exactly what I need to get to make one but I will be trawling through this forum to find out and look to get something sorted within the next couple of months.
Re: Hello from Manchester, England
I have always bought my stills (it's all legal here in nz) so don't have any experience with this (but I will likely build a bigger setup in the future). Many on here like to build mainly to stay off the government's radar plus they can make something to suit their needs. They seem to all go for a beer keg as the boiler and then build a reflux or pot still tower/condenser. What I can recommend is at least a 5 gallon boiler -anything smaller is a waste of the effort and if you aim to make bourbon than a pot still is definitely the way to go. Heaps of info for you to check out in the build section! Have fun!
Cheers, fyfo.
