Re: Mash Rookie
Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that. That man was a real artist, and from what I've read of his, he seemed like a great guy.
I only learned of his ALS a few months ago...incurable conditions are really, really shitty. They are not an easy thing to deal with. I have a few of my own - but they are a much lighter burden than his.
I hope he felt all of the love I'm sure that man had in his life towards the end. And I hope I get the opportunity to meet him on the other side.

I vote we sticky "Let's talk column packing". I have had it in my bookmarks for a while and refer to it periodically. Lots of good info discussed in that thread.

Re: Mash Rookie
Very sad to hear that. He was a great contributor to this site.
Re: Mash Rookie
I will be attending the memorial service when they set a date. Here is what his girl friend asked me to share with the HD community:
Hi to all the distillers here on this site. My name is Michelle, and I am Scott Chambers (aka MASH ROOKIE) girlfriend. He always called me Peachy because I am from Georgia. Scott passed away from ALS this past Thursday, May 21st, in his home. He was diagnosed at the end of May 2013, but had been having symptoms for probably a good 2 years prior to his official diagnosis. Scott and I met when I took a nursing travel assignment to Seattle. We had a great time for a couple of months and then I moved back to Georgia. I never intended to stay in Seattle. True to his aggressive, persistent nature, Scott badgered me to move back to Seattle to see where our new relationship could take us. So, after a year, I moved to Seattle to be with him. We were together 8 years. It's been 8 years of a wild ride..some good times, some not so good, but I wouldn't trade my time with him for anything. When he received his diagnosis, we had actually broken up for 2 months prior, but I moved back in with him to love him and take care of him. He spent the last 2 years trying to find a cure for ALS, but there is none. He fought a long hard fight. True to Scott's nature, he died the way he wanted. We were just planning to send him to an inpatient hospice facility on Thursday to tune him up a bit. But Scott had other plans. He was at home on Thursday morning, waiting on the ambulance to come pick him up for a few days of a hospital stay. He told the caregiver he didn't want to live this way anymore, and shortly after, he passed. The ambulance was only 20 minutes away. He is survived by one daughter and one son; his sister; his mother, father and stepmother. We are all at a loss. He was such a big personality. I know you all can see that through his threads on the site, but nothing can match the real thing. If you haven't already, check out his glassblowing site at scottchambersartglass.com. Also, there is a you tube video of him talking about his glass work. Just search for "Scott Chambers Art Glass" and you can see and hear the man himself. Thank you all for your wonderful memories of Scott. I hope that he is sitting on a cloud with a beautiful woman with a fishing pole in one hand and a good glass of Bourbon in the other. He loved women, he loved fishing, and he loved his Bourbon. His favorite was Knob Creek, so maybe a few of you can toast him in honor and memory. Thank you so much. Michelle Gay....Aka Peachy.

Re: Mash Rookie
I've only been here a year, and never had the chance to enjoy his posts as they were made, but did read through many, and found a great depth of information and inspiration. My next rum will be made, and his recipe he posted for "mash rookies daughters spiced rum " will be used as a tribute to a great man. Rest in peace and condolences and prayers to his family and those close.

Re: Mash Rookie
It's a sad day, but I don't think MR was the kind of guy that would want us to grieve too long. It's sad when someone who lives life full tilt goes under such tragic circumstances. He will definitely be remembered, admired, respected, and missed by those of us who only lightly touched his life. I send my best wishes and prayers to Peaches, his son and daughter, and all of his family and friends. God bless them all.

Thank you for passing on this tragic news Bushman. I wish I had words right now but can come up with nothing that expresses my feelings properly. Condolences to his family and all he knew.

Re: Mash Rookie
Very sad to hear that news. I've been reading old MR post on my way to Florida while the wife drove. Don't have any Knob Creek on hand but did travel with my personal drink in an old Knob Creek bottle.
I will raise a glass in your honor.
May peace find your family in these tough times.

Prayer for Artists
Vienna Cobb Anderson
Bless the creators, O God of creation,
who by their gifts make the world
a more joyful and beautiful realm.
Through their labors
they teach us to see more clearly
the truth around us.
In their inspiration
they call forth wonder and awe
in our own living.
In their hope and vision
they remind us
that life is holy.
Bless all who create in your image,
O God of creation.
Pour your Spirit upon them
that their hearts may sing
and their works be fulfilling.
Amen.

Re: Mash Rookie
Nice poem, I actually have one of MR's empty Knob Creek bottles, he also loved UJ and when I would anchor up my boat in the same harbor with him he always had several 2 quart jars filled with JD chips. Since I don't have any Knob Creek as well I will fill the bottle with UJ and after his memorial service I am going to sit down with a glass of ice and pour myself about 3 fingers and reminisce how lucky I have been to have known him.

My condolences... He offered up a lot of good advice, on my copper pot still build, which has yet to be finished. Looks like I need to get my butt in gear, and finish it, in his honor. Prayers sent.
