Hi from Melbourne Australia

Post by andybear »

I’ve been reading this forum and others for about a year now. I did my first run on a turbo 500, which is a commercial style reflux column just over a year ago, yes before I did my research. I have since built my own bubble plated column (flute I think it’s called in some countries). My aim is to make rum and bourbon mostly. I’ve been most impressed by the recipes I see hear and will be giving some of them a go this year.
hopefully the photo works and you can see my bubble plated column and the reflux on the fridge in the background.

Welcome to the forum, it looks like you have a nice rig, I have been eyeing some of those glass sections to add a vapor basket to my CM set up. You are correct about the recipes and if you think they look great in reading them wait till you start making them. My one concern is the set-up on top of the refrig. It's a converted coffee pot with plastic, here on HD we don't recommend any plastic in contact with either the high alcohol content or the vapor path. Good Luck and be safe.

Thanks guys for your comments. The bubbler runs good too, I love to watch the plates load up at the beginning. The T500 has passed on now, it was taking valuable space up so had to go. I'll be building a packed section to go above the plates soon for the neutral runs, but I don't think I'll do that run this year. Too many others on the list. Buccaneer bobs will be the first after my more simple rum runs currently on the go now. Cheers
