Re: liquid yeast
What are you making? Sugar heads generally need nutrients, AG's or fruit musts not (they have enough natural nutrients on their own).

In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Re: liquid yeast
All yeast needs some sort of nutrients to thrive..i don't expect the liquid sort to be different.

Re: liquid yeast
Yeast needs nutrients, sugar etc.
Since liquid yeast is expensive, I always use it to make a starter.
That way the little vial of yeast will be quart sized in a day or two.

You are spot on shady. A starter is a very good method for building yeast. I use liquid yeast all the time with AG beers, as Jimbo stated, nutrients are needed for some mashes and washes.

Re: liquid yeast
If you make beer, harvest your yeast into sterilized jars. I use a pint of slurry in a batch of AG, which is usually 70 lbs grain, 28g water. A pint of slurry is probably equivalent to 100 of them little White labs vials or Wyeast smack packs they sell for 5g beer batches.
