Feeding mash grain to Chickens

Post by MashMaker »

I read in a post some time back where someone was doing this.
Do you dry it somehow first.
Feed it wet straight from the fermenter.
Just curious I have several chickens and hate to waste the grain if I can feed it with no Ill effects.

They'll get drunk, but mush straight from being strained is o.k.

Just to add a twist to this....
My wife (bless her heart) believes in free range chickens and ducks...
She also does not want to feed them anything besides non-GMO feed. All of the corn from my UJSSM is of "unknown" (probably NOT non-GMO) origin...
So Where do I stand????
Believe me the chickens and Ducks will eat EVERYTHING I throw out there...
God knows I dont want to "waste" all the protein in this corn...

My Friends..... Tell me what should I do ???
If you are not willing to learn

We want you to be safe and succeed so start here

I think gooseeye said that laying hens will skip a day or two if you get them too hammered up on ferment grain.
goddamn horses would almost for sure colic just to spend another couple of grand on a vet.
But i'll bet a pig or a cow wouldn't turn it down
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

Yeah don't feed it to horses.... But hogs love it. I can hear them smacking right now, chomping their jaws. I might have to get another set 2 feed. I love fresh pork.

Hog Heaven.
When I was a little boy, long ago and far away my parents took me to a city bout once a year. We crossed a river that had a distilley right beside the highway. Then the road wound its way up the river hill. We would always get behind a hawg farmer in an old truck full of barrels of spent mash a sloshing over the sides. Old truck moving about 20 mph. I loved that Smell and remember it plainly.

I just throw it out on the ground. Squirrels, deer, quail, doves, birds, skunks (unfortunately) seem to love the stuff, and many farm animals. As for non GMO, you will be hard pressed to find any non-GMO corn unless you find a cave with some original indian corn which had a dozen kernels or so. All the corn we have today has been genetically bred /tinkered with to produce the amazing varieties we have today. All the fruit trees I have, I graft various varieties on them and mess with the genetics to produce new and better varieties. If I were to allow the seed to germinate it would eventually revert back to the original crap over enough generations. I don't want tiny crappy corn....or fruit. I like the good stuff we have today which has taken centuries of modification and genetics. Thank goodness for GMO's. Now if we could just modify some people.

I think all corn is gmo I believe it was the Aztec or Mayans that developed it from some kind of grass.

I'm all for the GMO people most other people's kids really piss me off sometimes!;)
