Re: In my shed
I sat on the porch "shed" today and striped another batch of sweet feed while snapping beans I have to can tomorrow.
I have no clue what my wife is thinking making me use up all our jars for beans and tomatoes.
I have more important things to preserve!!!!

I just want you to realize THE SRUGGLE IS REAL !
In my neck of the woods/desert Dollar General has the best prices on canning jars.....
For stripping runs I have somehow convinced the SOH that she should be buying apple cider and apple juice for the grandkids in Gallon glass jugs... The current burn rate on this is about 1 gallon jar a month.... If We can maintain this then it wont be long that I will be aging my spirit runs in gallon containers....
Carry On

Dead mice in the mash barrels, is how someone I know earned the nickname Mousey. Back to the topic of what I did in the shed.
I experimented distilling a gallon or two of water in a electric Korny keg still.

Re: In my shed
Organized the garage some more, got a little more room. Such a good feeling to be able to do stuff out there again. I did a cleaning run in preparation for a likker run tomorrow. Just a vinegar run. I decided to give my old Brewhaus still another go, this time filled with small marbles. Those marbles shore does makes a lot of noise in there! Even with no cooling to the still at all just blowing out vinegar steam. Glass rattling in there the whole time.

Re: In my shed
I enclosed my shop which takes about 1/4th of the space in my out building that is 20' x 30'. I make too much sawdust to hang tools on the wall. Although some of my tools are hanging I try to put as much as I can in cabinets.
Current project is making a fish cleaning station. I have a nice piece of stainless that is 33" x 21" so I ordered a polyproplene cutting board to fit inside the stainless that has 2" walls on 3 sides. Fits perfect on my saw horses to make it portable. Currently set it up as a work area while doing runs.

Re: In my shed
Hot Dayum !!
I got 10 gallons of UJSSM finishin off the ferment...
I havent run in 3 months.. (too friggin hot in the shed)
Probably MOnday I will be on a couple of strippin runs... I am lookin forward to it...
(Biggest concern is my wife put chickens in the backyard since my last runs. I dont let them in the shed. However what shall I do if they come in the shed while I am in the middle of a run??) The door to the shed is always closed unless I am in it, but with their curiosity over 4 hours I am going to deal with a lot of curious chickens?? Any ideas without the obvious of eating them??

Re: In my shed
I did a first run with a still I built for a friend over the 3 day weekend last week. First time I have run a reflux and pulled 95% with a 25% tails low wines mix I used. The 2 inch column has the first 12 inches packed with copper rashing rings then 24 inches of SS scrubbies. I installed a 4 inch ferrule to replace the stock 2 inch for easier cleaning of the keg. The reflux condenser has three 1/2 inch by 6 inch copper tubes and the liebeg is 1/2 inch ID copper inside a 1 inch Stainless tube 36 inches long. Neat thing is I have less than $300 dollars in the entire unit as it sits. Pretty amazing compared to my pot still. Now I have to call my friend and tell her it's ready. After looking at some pictures maybe I should clean my shed up a bit.

Re: In my shed
Woke up this morning, took my first cup of coffee out on the balcony (looks out over the skyline of Washington DC and Arlington Cemetery) and heard someone was singing "God Bless America" over in the cemetery. It's a cool, autumn morning, promising a beautiful day. So, I said to my self, "Self, you''ve been plowing through this legal bull crap and chasing paper for months, when all you really want to do is make a little hooch." So, says I to self, "Why not make a little hooch??" So I drops 8 lbs of sugar into a pot, melts it down, tosses in a couple tablespoons of lime juice and pour it over 10 lbs of mixed grains, added enough water to get to 5 gallons in my 6 gallon bucket, and Waaa Laa - SG = 1.070. (I confess, I've used the grain once already, had it in the freezer just cause.) Sprinkle in a table spoon of Red Star bread yeast, clicked down the top, checked to make sure the bubbler had a little water in it, and went to refill my coffee cup.
I'm gonna make me some hooch for Christmas by golly! Yep I am, I am I am.
Oh did I mention that headline on the WaPo this morning, "In pot-rich D.C., fertile ground for shady sales"? What is the world coming to? God bless the U.S.A.!!

Re: In my shed
Spent yesterday collecting firewood from downed trees we had a couple weeks ago when we had high winds and winter like storms. Got another cord for free to let dry for next year, rewarded myself by making final cuts on my fients run the other day. Got 2 gallons of 120 proof in growlers from several runs. Today I will look at what I have left on the shelf from mascerating and figure out what I want to make with it.
My Blackberry Panty Dropper turned out great but only have 1 liter, wish I would have picked more blackberries when they were ripe.
BoomTown, sounds like a great morning you had and probably well deserved!
