Post by frodo »

I understand that using neoprene is a NO NO.

their is another material called Nordel

Is anyone familiar with it? Anyone know anything about it ?

Neoprene is a chloroprene based synthetic rubber and is resistant to deterioration from waxes, fats, oils, greases, petroleum products, and most refrigerants. Nordel is an ethylene-propylene based synthetic rubber for hot and cold water, low steam, detergents, phosphate esters, ketone, alcohols, and glycols. It is not suitable for petroleum products. Neoprene and nordel are proprietary materials of others and assume no liability for results obtained or damages incurred through the application of this information. The information is intended simply as a guide.

According to the rules Nordel isn't acceptable.
Here's some information on it.

I used EPDM to seal a glass thumper  The EPDM was mummified with Teflon tape.
The alcohol vapor still managed to get to the EPDM to partially dissolve it.

There is a thread here on EPDM...

I have an EPDM gasket that came with a SS vessel. One whiff is enough for me. It smells like a burning tire. If it leeches that crap into the air, god know what it would do to my drink. I don't even want to think about it.
