I had grand ideas, but my skill level was limited. I thought it was immense.
I guess you live and learn on this lil ole earth,
what I should have done was listened when asked WHY are you mixing stainless and copper.
any of ya'll remember who that was that asked that question?
I owe him a pull off my bottle.
I built my mega shotgun, up to, testing the tubes.
on one end, I flared the copper then flattened the flare
this gave me a NICE area to solder,
on this end, I had no leaks, everything was hunky dorey.
the other end, I could not flare, so decided to solder the ss to the copper
this did not wok out, not enough material to solider AND they were to close together
I would fix a pin hole, and another would pop up. it was like playing wack a mole at the fair.
SO, I have pulled the copper tubes, and have ordered 5/8'' od ss seamless pipe
I will be the first to say, It does not matter that I have over 30 years experience soldering copper.
i do not have 30 years experience soldering SS to copper
posting this to help out some other bone head
what not to do

Re: what not to do
I soldered my cape to the top of my SS stock pot. Not issues at all. Make sure you get the right liquid flux and solder.

Dang you should have gave me a holler before ya tore it apart. The problem could have been alleviated with a soldering iron. Or a heated peice of rebar or something like that. In conjunction with a small swedge you would been golden.

Re: what not to do
I was thinking, solder a copper plate to the SS like Pyewaket did here
http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =2&t=39820
Then you can solder the tubes to the copper with no problem.

Re: what not to do
update, pulled the copper and bought some ss seamless 5/8'' od tubing 316
buddy of mine welded it for me.
i brought it home, filled it with water, and shot it with 50 psi air
let it sit for 12 hours with no signs of leakage.
next week, I need a bottle of argon,
i will have the end caps welded on. and the 1'' and 3/8''thread o-lets welded on the keg
it aint purdy, but it aint leaking,
