question on distilling absinthe

Post by Villie »

so ive been reading a lot of info here; I still have a question pertaining to the distillation of absinthe that is being distilled with 95% alcohol and distilled water. should I be concerned about heads? I figured the tails would still be an issue (or lack there of actually, since its usually added to next distillation). I've pretty much hopefully got the gist of heads though: watch for temperature and also the smell will be much different. viscosity will be different as well. one recipe I have for absinthe simply says to change receiver once the distillate changes color and save it to add to future runs pertaining to the tails. another recipe I have says to save the first 25-30 ml of distillate per liter of finished product (this source give recipe, and of water, and alcohol to use step by step to get an end product of 1 liter).
Thanks to anyone that chimes in. once finished i'll post pictures, and even a recipe if you guys care to know, of my very first run out of my first pot still that was just delivered to my doorstep today. :eugeek:
I'm really excited to get this project under way and elope with le fee verte  8)
