how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
Hi guys, I have just harvested my muscat grapes and I would like to increase the SG from 1055 to 1095 to achieve approximately 12.5% finished product, I have 90ltrs of soon to be wine.
I have misplaced the calculator that will show me how much sugar to add to 90ltrs wash to make up the difference if you have any idea please let me know , thanks

How much sugar to add to a fruit wash for a brandy when the SG is already 1.055?
NONE.

I agree with that, however he was asking about wine not brandy. I myself freeze concentrated to boost the S.G. for wine this year but the other suggestions about brewers friend and the parent site are good ones.T-Pee wrote:How much sugar to add to a fruit wash for a brandy when the SG is already 1.055?

Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
The OP's intent is to boost ABV for a brandy using refined sugar...not just making wine for direct consumption. Using concentrate to boost SG is acceptable practice. Adding white sugar to a fruit wine with the intent of distilling at a higher ABV is not.cranky wrote:I agree with that, however he was asking about wine not brandy. What you say about boosting ABV for brandy is true but this post is in the Beer and Wine section and the OP said thisT-Pee wrote:The OP's intent is to boost ABV for a brandy using refined sugar...not just making wine for direct consumption. Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
In all fairness T-Pee I could be wrong, after all I was wrong once, and only the OP can clarify his true intentions and of course your advice for brandy is sound, There is no need to boost alcohol in a brandy ferment, wine is another issue.T-Pee wrote:Yup. Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
Thanks for the reply guys, I did indeed only want to make wine, if I wanted to make brandy and increase yield I would have added some neutral to the wash before running if the % was too low
Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
What did you end up doing and what did it finish up like?
I've used grape juice concentrate from a high quality wine kit to boost British grown grapes successfully.

Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
I added sugar and all was going well until It got some kind off infection and ended up with lots of vinegar
Re: how much sugar to add to raise alcohol percentage
Sorry to hear but wine vinager is nice. I use it in lots of cooking.
You might want to save a curture from this in case you want to make vinager again...
Sorry to hear no wine though
