How do you monitor proof during a run?

I have a parrot, but I have found that it is giving me false readings while running. I kept the volume in the parrot as small as posable, and i think the hydrometer is too tight, and while the flow is coming in it is pushing up the hydrometer a little messing up the reading.

It got me to thinking that it is probably smearing my distillate anyways, and that there must be a better way of doing this.

So I was wondering what approach other people take. I am thinking I should just check the ABV of each jar once I fill it, but please let me know how you all do it.
