Corny Keg Question??

Post by sltm1 »

Moderator, feel free to re-direct this post if I put it I the wrong place. Now, the question is, my wife and I are planning to do some extensive RV-ing this year and I would like to bring some of my "adult beverage" with me for the trip. Would a 5gal Corny keg, with a modified (remove rubber replace with PTFE wrapped gaskets), hand pressure pump (you know, like a weed sprayer type, but for beer), be a safe way to go? I wouldn't like to be stopped anywhere with a slug of mason jars, and unlike "Tickle", I intend to use my water tank for water LOL!!!!!!!

how long you gonna be gone??

Corny keg has 5 rubber pieces (3 o rings and 2 poppets) that you would need to replace. Might be easier to just store your go juice in lightly used liquor bottles if the jar is too conspicuous.

I like the idea of stainless instead of glass for the road though.. maybe a milk can? You could get a ptfe gasket easier on it

Thanx for the suggestion on the milk can, I think that may be the better option. We'll be gone for up to 3 weeks at a time (big ass Texas tour for family and friends and it'll take several days just to get there). We're definitely going "leisure class", in our "gold plated" years LOL

I would probably just use a plastic fuel can if you dont want to use glass. The safest method re the law would be to put it in used commercial bought liqueur bottles. If that is too heavy and cumbersome what about a steel fuel can rather than plastic. If you want to go really big you could get a stainless truck fuel tank fit that under the body of the RV and nobody would know.

No Plastic or synthetics period. Get you a beer keg and take out the speer and put your likker in that. You can use a Teflon seal and an end cap and tri clamp or just drive a piece of oak in it shaped like a cork and pour it out or get you a wine thief and dip it out. 5 gal keg would be easier to deal with than a 7.5 or a 15 gal. I would not use larger glass unless you are talking likker bottles and then I would get a box made for them from the likker store that they come in.

Personally, I wouldn't do a corny:
1. getting a liquid tight seal on the lid is elusive;
2. if you're toting higher than 100 proof, you will likely freak out when you see the teflon tape you wrapped around the o-ring turn clear/translucent.

you could pressurize the keg with a co2 bulb keg charger and push the liquid out
that would also seal up the keg like when using with beer.

or the SS jerry is a great idea
