I don't care what folks call me, as long as it's meant for fun.
But if an Aussie or Kiwi calls me "mate" in public, Please say it with a Down Under accent.

I've been called a whingeing pom and a pomme bastard in Australia but always in fun by someone with a smile on their face. I've no problem with that. It's only offensive if it's intended to be offensive.kiwi Bruce wrote:It's like us calling the Brits POM's. It's OK, till you call them whingeing poms or pomme bastards. ...

Here's how ignorant I was... I lived in Surrey (England) for three years, and while there I traveled down to Plymouth and on into Cornwall. Stopped at a local pub....and their not speaking English ! I had no idea that the Cornish had their own language.
So... I was told that there are seven languages still actively spoken in the British Isles. Here is my count:- English, Scots Gaelic, Irish Gaelic, Welsh, Cornish, Normandy/French (The Channel Isles) and....? anyone know the seventh?
Edit... Found it....it's French AND Norman spoken on the Channel Isles.
All that fun we had growing up...We pay for as we grow old.

Hey googe!
I'm a southerner in the states, and being an off the wall character I don't get easily offended.
I appreciate you clearing up the terminology you have for us bastards of the crown.
My opinion of it all here in the south: the people that might take offense to someone calling them a yank isn't necessarily aimed at the history of the "North vs. South", but more tward the way a lot of northerners act twards each other.
Here in the south you know your neighbors, say high, open doors for each other, wave in passing and strike up conversations with complete strangers all with a big smile.
Northerners are simply known for being loud pricks.
Having thoroughly traveled the PNW for years for work, I know that last comment is not entirely true. Yes there are loud pricks here too and everywhere for that matter.
I've noticed that is more than passing judgement, northerners are generally just in a rush and "ain't got time for that shit".
I think Brooks said it best from the movie "the shawshank redemption"- he quotes: "the world has gotten themselves into a big damn hurry." (a must watch flick!)
Now of course there are polite, thoughtful people up north that bake extra cookies for their neighbors and hold the door for a lady and respect their elders too...but they are here and there in my experience and it's dwindling here even as more of those damn "snow-birds" come down (jk haha)
They are probably just pissed that they don't have real sweet tea up there. LMAO
All jokes aside if you go to a lot of restaurants up north if you ever ask for sweet tea they will give you a plain ice tea and a packet of sugar (like that shits supposed to work out lololol).
anyway that's just my take... Figured I'd throw this all in here to give some extra perspective. That's what communication and community is all about imo. Just a bunch of different people from all walks of life trying to figure out what other people do/think about things while trying to help and fit in along the way.
Cheers from the US!

Breakfast, Lunch, Supper, Dinner we eat Dinner, we dont eat Supper
supper is what the church ladies serve up, before they hit you up for a donation
anyone invites you to a supper, they after your money

Call me whatever you want as long as you make the distinction between the good people of this country and the actions of its broken government.
