Old,old expired yeast
Found a pound or two of very old expired bakers yeast that I plan on boiling and then using as a nutrient in an upcoming ferment. Is there a rule of thumb on how much to use per gallon of wash. I'd hate to use too much as I'd like to keep our little friends happy and still have more for another day if this works out.
Thanks, FMH.

The all bran thread or pugi rum would be a good source for the proper ratio. I think both of those use boiled yeast for neuts.

I'll use this as a guide.I was thinking no more than or close to the pitch amount anyway.

I am planning on harvesting the yeast from my trub and boiling that, as mentioned by blanikdog... I had about a half liter of nice clean yeast that was filtered from a previous ferment but tossed it right before taking the summer off from fermenting...

Pugi uses a much less in his infamous yeast bomb, 1/4 cup in the bomb and a cup in the ferment. That is for a ten gallon wash.

So you can get away with less, waste not want not

Where in the world do you guys find 20-0-0 fertilizer? If I'm not mistaken isn't that a controlled / Ammonium Nitrate recipe?

Gotcha. I forgot Ammonium Nitrate is something like 33-0-0 or something along those lines. You guys are using Ammonium Sulfate. Thanks for the clarification.

I know that, but they also use it for agriculture on peppers locally. It's still available, but you have to have a USDA Farm Number and it is closely watched. I think Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer is 33-0-0 of I remember correctly.
