Hello from New York
Hi all. I've been reading till my eyes bleed. Took me six months to get through it all. Ready to progress to the next level.
I'd like to produce some simple white-dog for sipping, and start playing around aging/oaking after I produce a product that is tolerable. I hope to progress to AG bourbon and whiskey as my skills progress. I'll start, however, with a few generations of UJSSM to keep things simple for a while.
I'm going to build a simple pot still along the lines of the one Samahon posted on the diagrams and plans stickie. Any comments on this design?
I might modify it slightly by swapping the 45degree elbow in the Lyne arm with a 90 degree to get a more stable footprint. In using a smaller 5 gal boiler and I'm concerned with the whole unit tipping on me.
I'm happy to be here and very grateful for all of you sharing your knowledge and experience about this craft. I'm excited to get started!

Welcome bigprimmer,
It's a pleasure to have someone join that you feel you can't advise on which direction to start. You have a plan based on reading and understanding basic concepts. All I can say is glad to have you aboard.
Carry on and enjoy the ride.

hi ! welcome in!
AG is not that tough if you use some enzymes and lots of heat. a little malt for flavour...it's not the purist's mash, but it gets the job done.
good luck, Have some fun!

Your condenser should be fine. Your boiler is only slightly smaller than mine and liebig condenser approximately the same dimensions as mine except I have a 3/4" outer tube. I easily can run at 2400 watts without over running the condenser. How big is your heater?
Re: Hello from New York
id put the union in the horiztontal part of the lyne arm. this would alow you to afjust the angle of the liebig and change your collection area if needed other than that it should work just fine

I like the union there. It's good in case you have to clean the liebig someday (puking, scorching...).
