reflux or condenser using a thermoelectric cooling plate?

Post by henryk-yonza »

I've read a lot here in the last few weeks
And I'm still building my first still.
(I met a local welder that tired to sell me a 25 gallon pot he made from stainless steel
That looked to be built from rolled 1/4 plate that just seemed to thick to make heating worth while)

But before I get off topic

I have not seen anything relating to using a thermoelectric cooling plate anywhere.
(They are the 2x2 inch(or much larger) plates you apply electricity to and they get very cold or very hot)

I could see them being very useful in a number of ways for distilling
Mainly for condensing in place of coils with water running though.
Coat them with a thin layer of copper and they should be a fantastic reflux device or replace
The final condenser..

The few I've held in my hand get well below freezing And allow you
Dial in exactly how cold you want them easily..

Why are they not used more?
(Or at all from what I 've seen mentioned)
